What is it?
Cloud and his friends leave the great city of Midgar and travel a wide world. Combat mixes real-time action with a system that pauses time so you can choose tactics.
Why it matters
The original Final Fantasy VII was one of the games that made Japanese RPGs popular overseas, so its remake drew strong attention from longtime fans abroad.
The numbers abroad
Circana data ranked it the second best-selling game in the United States in February 2024. In Japan, first-week physical sales were 263,000 copies, below the 703,000 of Final Fantasy VII Remake, so its weight leans abroad.
