Mario Kart World
マリオカート ワールド
Nintendo's newest Mario Kart launched on June 5, 2025, the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2, and became the reason many people bought the console.
What is it?
A kart racer starring Mario, Peach and the rest of Nintendo's cast. This time the courses are joined into one large connected world, so you can also drive around freely between races. Split-screen play on one TV, a series staple, is still here.
Why it matters
You do not need to read a word to play it, which makes it a family game in every country. Launching alongside the hardware meant it was bought together with the console, and it helped drive Switch 2 sales worldwide.
The numbers abroad
Nintendo's official figures put it at 15.39 million units worldwide as of June 30, 2026, the top-selling Nintendo Switch 2 title. It has become the face of the new console both in Japan and overseas.
