Nishinomiya (Hyōgo)
西宮市(兵庫県)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is one of the works that made "pilgrimage" the word for visiting anime locations. Its setting is Nishinomiya in Hyōgo Prefecture.
What is it?
Based on Nagaru Tanigawa's light novels and produced by Kyoto Animation, the anime first aired from April 2006. The characters' walk to school matched real scenery in Nishinomiya, and fans began visiting the same places.
The author's hometown
Tanigawa grew up in Nishinomiya, and the school that served as the model is his alma mater. Hyōgo Prefecture even considered turning the locations into a tourism course.
Before you go
The model high school is a working school. In the past, people entered the grounds and left graffiti, which caused trouble. Please do not enter; look quietly from outside.
