Tagiri Station (JR Iida Line, Nagano)
田切駅(長野県・JR飯田線)
A small rural station with a monument calling it the birthplace of anime pilgrimage: Tagiri Station on the JR Iida Line, a setting of the 1991 OVA Kyūkyoku Chōjin R.
What is it?
In the 1991 OVA of Masami Yūki's manga Kyūkyoku Chōjin R, the characters ride the Iida Line, and Tagiri Station became a holy site for fans. In 2018 volunteers erected a monument naming it the birthplace of anime pilgrimage, unveiled on July 28.
Still going
Since 2012, a cycling event supported by a group that cleans the station and keeps a station notebook has become a regular late-July fan gathering, more than 20 years after the OVA.
Before you go
Most of these spots are ordinary towns, homes and schools. Stay off private property, keep noise down, and be considerate when taking photos.
