Hybrid gameplay fusion

Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle combines board game, collectible card game, and puzzle mechanics into one cohesive RPG. Map movement resembles board games with encounter tiles, traps, and items scattered across stages. Combat uses a puzzle system: colored orbs appear between player characters and enemies. Matching orbs of the same color generates Ki (power). Twelve Ki unlocks a Super Attack; 18 Ki triggers Ultra Super Attacks for legendary-class characters, peaking at 24 Ki. Dokkan Mode unlocks after sufficient matches, requiring players to swipe targets in Z-shaped patterns rapidly as orbs pass overhead—unleashing dramatically more powerful super attacks.

Characters possess base health, attack, and defense stats increased through leveling, awakening, and hidden potential activation. Passive skills grant abilities: additional attacks, critical hits, dodge, damage reduction, guards, enemy attack prediction, revival. Modern characters include attack, defense, and Ki bonuses within passive skills. Team composition requires considering leader skills that buff specific character categories or types. Link skills activate when two characters share identical links positioned adjacently, creating tactical synergies. Six characters form a team; seven including a friend summon.

Dragon Ball universe and sustained operation

Characters span Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT, anime Dragon Ball Super, Dragon Ball DAIMA, theatrical originals, and limited collaborations. Difficulty tiers accommodate newcomers through advanced players. Periodic events deliver continuing content updates. Multiple language versions serve global markets simultaneously. Japan, United States, and China constitute primary markets maintaining high revenue. Bandai Namco stewardship ensures brand-backed long-term support infrastructure.

Rarity tiers—N, R, SR, SSR, UR, beyond UR, and LR (legendary)—determine character power ceiling. Most characters unlock through random summons (gacha); some availability through in-game shops. Z-Awakening raises rarity one tier; Dokkan Awakening grants transcendent power. Regular seasonal updates, region-specific optimizations, and multi-language support enabled over a decade of operation.
