Sonic DashSonic Dash
ソニックダッシュ
An endless runner based on Sonic the Hedgehog. Developed by Hardlight studio. iOS launched March 2013, Android in November 2013.
Gameplay and expansion
Players control Sonic the Hedgehog or series characters. The protagonist automatically advances forward; players tap the screen to jump. Avoid obstacles and enemies while collecting rings—gold circular items serving as in-game currency. Mission system provides objectives yielding rewards upon completion. Accumulated rings and red star rings unlock character power-ups or new playable characters. Multiple playable characters feature distinct jump mechanics and abilities.
3D graphics depict environments based on Sonic series locations—notably Seaside Hill from Sonic Heroes. Multiple stages roll out periodically. Boss battle events challenge players against specific enemies. Cross-promotional character appearances include Angry Birds, Sanrio characters, Pac-Man, and others during limited periods. Zone Builder mode lets players design custom stages.
Extended operation and market expansion
March 2013 iOS launch achieved 22.6 million downloads immediately. By June 2015, cumulative downloads exceeded 100 million across platforms with 14 million monthly players. By November 2017, download count surpassed 300 million. Reached 400 million by April 2020, then 500 million by September 2021.
Sega and Hardlight maintain continuous update schedules introducing new stages and content. Multi-platform expansion covers smartphones, tablets, and other devices. Periodic limited-time events sustain player engagement.
