Knives OutKnives Out
荒野行動
A third-person battle royale shooter developed by NetEase Games. iOS launched November 2017, Android in December. Multi-platform expansion to Windows and consoles.
Battle royale mechanics
Multiple players engage via online matchmaking—approximately 100 per session. Helicopter delivers all players simultaneously over the map; players parachute to chosen landing zones. Scavenge scattered weapons, armor, and recovery items across the island. Direct combat against opponents drives survival mechanics. Duo (2 players), squad (3 players), and quintet (5 players) team configurations. Leader-initiated synchronized jumps enable coordinated drops.
Limited-time event modes diverge from standard battle royale: hide-and-seek variations and social deduction (mafia/werewolf) modes introduce asymmetric gameplay alternatives.
Multiplatform expansion and competitive structure
November 3, 2017 iOS launch. November 24 iOS and Android open beta. December 14 worldwide release. March 2018 Windows version added. Subsequent expansion to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 enabled cross-platform play, expanding addressable audiences. Cross-platform compatibility bridged ecosystems.
2018 copyright disputes prompted legal action, resolved through 2019 settlement. Post-settlement, Japanese media stakeholders joined content planning efforts. Official competitive circuits with million-dollar prize pools formalized esports infrastructure. Professional gamers participated in organized tournaments. Continuous content updates, seasonal events, and balance adjustments sustained engagement.
